Objective
The objective was to design an animation to be used as a promotional piece that appropriately reflects the overarching theme of a podcast.

Concept and Solution
Serial is an investigative journal podcast hosted by Sarah Koenig. The topics usually involve criminal activity and the judicial system. This animation promotes season three which focuses on the injustice of the Cleveland Judicial Center. The overarching theme for this animation is recidivism. The messages conveyed are that the prison system is about profit, not rehabilitation and those incarcerated become products, not people. The design decisions reflect this through the use of sterile, cold, machinery. The desaturated, rigid prisoners appear as inanimate objects packaged in bright orange jumpsuits. The cage falling to another conveyor belt suggests the repetition of incarceration because there is no true freedom for anyone that has been incarcerated.
